When entering formulas that use multiplication, you use the * symbol on the keyboard. Division is the / forward slash symbol. These can be found on the numeric keypad.
Power Writer abides by the standard rules of mathematical precedence, as does Microsoft Excel. This is as follows:
•Multiplication, division – higher precedence
•Addition, Subtraction – lower precedence
For example, if we have the formula 2 + 3 x 10, mathematically our answer is 32. This is because multiplication has a higher precedence than addition, and therefore 3 x 10 is evaluated first, then 2 + 30. This is important to keep in mind when entering formulas that use these operators together.
If we wish to gain the result of 50, we would surround the 2 + 3 with parentheses, therefore our formula would become (2 + 3) x 10.
